GENERAL NOTES

Prothrombin has a biological half-life of 3 days. Fewer than 100 cases of prothrombin deficiency have been described. Acquired F II deficiency may be due to liver disease and Vit K deficiency/antagonism. Antibodies against F II can be seen in patients with the lupus anticoagulant or the antiphospholipid syndrome and on rare occasions as isolated cases.
