COLLECTION NOTES

Zinc (Zn) should be collected into a trace elements free tube (no additive i.e. serum). Do NOT collect a Zinc into an EDTA Trace Element Tube.
Avoid haemolysis.

GENERAL NOTES



APPLICATION:  Zinc toxicity.  Deficiency may occur in patients on parenteral nutrition, with burns, vomiting, malabsorption or gastrointestinal fistula losses, and in acrodermatitis enteropathica.

INTERPRETATION:  Acute phase response and hypoalbuminaemia can both lower serum zinc levels.
