Collect in 1 EDTA containing Aprotinin/Leupeptin ,centrifuge,separate into 2 x> 0.5ml aliquots. Labeled with EDTA plasma with Aprotinin/Leupeptin for PTHrP. Freeze ASAP. Collect PTH and ionised calcium at the same time , these are to be performed at the Mater with results supplied to SNP.

SNP is now offering the measurement of parathyroid hormone related peptide( PTHrP) for patients with non-PTH dependent hypercalcaemia. Hypercalcaemia of malignancy is a common complication of cancer and is due to the secretion of PTHrP by malignant cells.Patients with evelated PTHrp and hypercalcaemia have a poorer prognosis.
