APPLICATION: Lead (Pb) poisoning, population screening for increased lead exposure.
INTERPRETATION: Levels >0.5 umol/L indicate increased exposure to lead and may be associated with intellectual impairment in children. Levels >2 umol/L are likely in patients with symptoms of acute lead toxicity. Blood lead may be the only abnormal parameter in acute organic lead poisoning (eg, petrol sniffing).
Note: If this test is required urgently, please contact the Pathology Laboratory on 3840 8500 (Internal Extension 8500) so appropriate arrangements can be made.
