Samples collected from pregnant women =12 weeks gestation are accepted for testing. Two EDTA whole blood samples containing at least 6 mL each are needed for the assay. (A minimum of 2.5mL of harvested plasma is required to perform testing.) Label each sample with a minimum of 2 identifiers (preferably 3). Note: Identifiers must include full name and at least one of either date of birth or unique medical record number. Samples must be provided with a completed request form with a minimum of 3 identifiers and include the referring organisation’s contact details and any relevant clinical information. Note: Ensure samples and request forms display identical information. Samples should be stored at 2-8°C. Samples must be received and processed by the Red Cell Reference Laboratory within 72 hours of collection. The samples should be packed with a frozen ice brick, but should not be in direct contact with the ice brick to avoid haemolysis.
