CSF pathogen PCR: Request "CSF pathogen PCR" which is now available and detects all of the following: Bacterial pathogens: Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumononiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B strep) and Escherchia coli. Fungal pathogen: Cryptococcus species. Viral pathogens: HSV1, HSV2, VZV, Enterovirus.
PCR testing is performed Monday-Saturday. Samples received before noon will be tested on the same day, if received after noon samples will be tested on the next testing day. If PCR testing is required urgently out-of-hours, please contact the microbiology laboratory on 3163-8168.
