If collecting for cbfb-myh11 PCR - please collect 20ml EDTA. Testing may also be performed on bone marrow aspirate and fresh tissue samples. EDTA peripheral blood can also be used IF karyotype studies are not requested.

FISH testing may be medicare rebatable under the following condiditions:
Item 73314 - Characterisation of gene rearrangement or the identification of mutations within a known gene rearrangement, in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with laboratory evidence of: (a) acute myeloid leukaemia; or (b) acute promyelocytic leukaemia; or (c) acute lymphoid leukaemia; or (d) chronic myeloid leukaemia;
If criteria not met, cost is $300 per FISH probe used.
