COLLECTION NOTES

Random urine is collected. Do not overfill the urine container as urine will expand when frozen.
Must be delivered to laboratory within 2.5 hours of collection. If there is a delay, specimens need to be sent frozen to the laboratory on dry ice.
Test for 2-aminoadipic semialdehyde (AASA) is no longer available. All requests for this test will have piperideine-6-carboxylic acid done instead.

APPLICATION: For diagnosis of pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy due to antiquitin/2-aminoadipic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency.
