Contact a Chemical Pathologist with any concerns. A routine GTT will require the patient to be at the collection centre for over 2 hours.
PRE-TEST PREPARATION: 1. The patient should not have suffered from any acute illness or been confined to bed during the two weeks prior to the test. 2. The patient must fast from the previous night (8 - 15 hr fast). Water only is allowed. 3. The patient should eat a normal diet for three days prior to the test. 4. Note all medications currently being taken. Drugs significantly affecting glucose tolerance include oestrogens, corticosteroids, thiazides, beta blockers and phenytoin.
