1. Pass faeces directly into a clean, dry container keeping separate from urine. 2. For Diagnosis of Amoebic Dysentery make prior arangement with laboratory and transport to laboratory within 30 minutes of being passed.
GENERAL NOTES
APPLICATION: Clostridium difficile is the most likely cause of diarrhoea in patients hospitalised for > 3 days.
PCR: Faecal PCR is now available which detects Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium parvum/hominis, Dientamoeba fragilis, Blastocystis hominis, and Entamoeba histolytica.
If other parasites or helminths are suspected, please request "Concentrated parasite stain for OCP".
