Contact laboratory before collection of specimen as we need to contact external laboratory prior to collection.
Protect specimen from light (eg, wrap in alfoil or brown paper).
GENERAL NOTES
APPLICATION: Confirmation of acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) and diagnosis of asymptomatic family members.
INTERPRETATION: Levels are usually decreased by up to 50% in patients with AIP, however some patients may have values within the reference interval. Not all persons with the genetic defect have a history of clinical disease.
